What is Area?

Quick definition

The amount of 2D space inside a shape, measured in square units (m², ft², acres, hectares).

Full explanation

Area is the measure of a 2D surface. Common units: square meters (m²), square feet (ft²), acres (43,560 ft²), hectares (10,000 m²). Formulas: Rectangle A = length × width; Triangle A = ½ × base × height; Circle A = π × r²; Trapezoid A = ½ × (b1 + b2) × height. Surface area is the 3D equivalent (sum of face areas). Area is critical for flooring, paint, roofing, landscaping, and land purchase. To convert between units: 1 m² = 10.764 ft². Acre is a common real estate unit; hectare is the metric equivalent. A football field is ~1 acre (without end zones).
