What is Macronutrients?

Definição rápida

The three main nutrient groups the body needs in large quantities: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. The "macros."

Explicação completa

Macronutrients ("macros") are nutrients required in gram-scale quantities for energy and body function. There are three: protein (4 kcal/g), carbohydrates (4 kcal/g), and fat (9 kcal/g). Alcohol is sometimes considered the fourth (7 kcal/g). The macro split you need depends on goals: high protein (1.6–2.2 g/kg) for muscle gain, moderate carbs for endurance, higher fat for satiety or keto. The Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range (AMDR) is 10–35% protein, 45–65% carbs, 20–35% fat. Micronutrients (vitamins, minerals) are needed in much smaller amounts but are equally essential. Tracking macros is more popular than calorie-only tracking for body composition goals.
